Emotions give meaning to life

Emotions give meaning to life

When you truly emotionally connect to something, it’s motivating.

Memorable.

Meaningful.

That’s why we seek emotions.

They give meaning to life.

People aren’t just looking to buy things and experience things.

They’re looking to feel something.

To be moved.

Everyone is only doing anything in order to move from one emotion to another.

That’s why we love stories.

They evoke strong emotional responses in us.

From our ancestors sitting around a fire to the children going to bed tonight, stories are - and forever will be - an essential part of the human experience.

And through an immersive mix of visuals and sound, movies are the ultimate way to tell those stories.

Movies capture our imagination and transport us to different worlds.

Movies teach us about different cultures and perspectives.

Movies help us experience and process our own emotions.

Great directors know this.

That’s why every decision they make is intentional.

From the music, to the lighting, shot composition and speed of the edit; everything is designed to evoke the desired emotional response from an audience.

“The most amazing thing for me is that every single person who sees a movie brings a whole set of unique experiences. But through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time.”
Steven Spielberg

It’s also why tapping into emotions is the key to finding something great to watch.
